Fay Closing In
H-Mom was smart and got to the dog park with Booker early this morning. We got in an hour walk, with Booker OCDing just a little over the potential of raccoons in the trees. H-Mom had to be vigilant and refocus his attention on the walk. He played with the usual set of dogs too.
Minutes after we got home, the sky opened up. Thunder, lightening and sheets of rain thick enough to obliterate the view out of our 19th floor windows. We are "hunkering down," as we should only get strong winds and lots of rain. Booker is "hunkering" in the bathroom. That seems to be the best place to take cover from thunder booming. For our coast, Fay will be closer to a tropical storm than a hurricane. We won't evacuate even if it gets bad. Our building is only three years old, with certified hurricane windows and a generator. It would be uncomfortable without air conditioning, but we would be safe.
David is a building inspector, and he feels safe here. He says, if a pickup truck comes hurtling through our window, 19 floors up, everyone in Florida has a lot more to worry about than some rain and wind. And, we would probably be in more danger on the road, trying to escape in a traffic jam of evacuees.
Walks will be a challenge if the weather really deteriorates. Booker isn't a "walking in the rain with the one I love," kind of dog.

Thank you for your kind words for my mom. We hope you will be safe and cool down there!
love & wags,
River
We were wondering how you are. Our Mom took us on a very quick walk this morning before the rains came too.
These storms give new meaning to the idea of crossed paws. We lived through Wilma with our paws crossed for hours until it was safe to go outside.
Stay safe, pals -- and let's hope this is the worst our area will experience until the "season" is over!!
Woofs!

Stay safe Booker! Sending Happy Thoughts in your direction!
Wowie. Stay safe and dry! At least if Booker doesn't like the rain, maybe he will go potty quickly. Biggie as a pup just wanted to play chase and stomp in puddles in pouring freezing rain and sleet. Walks were a challenge for a completely different reason - because he would play first, poop later!
Hey Booker -- We don't think the Internet will go down, so reaassure your H-Mom.
Do you have a back up battery?
And a corded phone?
Those two things help us stay connected.
We reread your post and thought about what your H-Dad said about a truck hurtling through the 19th-story window. Remember, this is South Florida -- stranger things have happened!! BOL

Our paws are crossed for you! We don't like tropical storms or hurricanes! They're scary and destructive!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
Hey if a pickup truck does crash through your 19th floor windows, make sure you get a photo of it OK? ;-)
Cheers
Charlie
Hold on tight! Hopefully the storm will come and go and you will be none the worse for the wear.
Ari's predecessor was a beagle/blue-tick hound mix named Kinch. Kinch REALLY hated storms and would hide at the bottom of our dirty clothes hamper everytime he heard a rumble of thunder. Frankly, I think it'd be better to be in the middle of a tropical storm than buried in stinky gym clothes, but he disagreed.
We are thinking of you and hoping that nothing comes flying through any of your windows! the bathroom is where I go when it storms, good plan buddy.
paws are crossed over here that things are fine!
Oh Wow! That's scary. Hope that you'll be OK.
That parking garage sounds like a perfect pooping parlor for when times get tough. We love the concept: poop as payback.
Have you ever been to Monkey Jungle -- or similar place -- where monkeys do indeed throw the stuff? We've always thought it was exactly that -- revenge.
We think you probably got more winds and rain than we did because of your location closer to the coast. We're about 15 miles in. This morning has actually been windier than all day yesterday -- probably because now we're closer to Fay's movement northward -- but still nothing to be concerned about.
Sadly, there;s more out there in the Atlantic :(
xx
