Rumble

So what is this all about? In the last few days, Booker has let a little rumbling growl go when Samantha walks into the room. She is a quiet, soft-treading young human ... perhaps she startles him a bit.

Sometimes at night, she shows up next to my bed, me half-asleep and gives me momentary heart pause.

I have asked her to announce herself when she enters a room, even a quiet "hello, Booker" will work. So that he doesn't feel unsettled or threatened by her creeping presence. We don't want this to get to be a habit.

Besides, Samantha is the "distributer of treats." She taught Booker how to "lay down" "shake" and is working on "roll over." The "roll over" is a difficult one, as Booker has no interest in being belly up to get a treat!

Booker!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I have a little secret for you...I don't like to be belly up either, not even for a treat. When my human tries to teach me "Roll Over" my legs fly everywhere and she ends up getting hurt some how! Hehehe!

Hope you're having a good week!

Slurp!

Rumbling can be a problem--it is in our pack. Old Bailey has a social 'distance' of 3 ft. If we pass him that close he growls, sometimes even howls. Sometimes Davoo or Bitey will have enough of it and chomp on him. It's not easy being a rumbler.

Maybe Booker hears something before he sees or smells and is protecting the house?

love & wags,

That's interesting. Is the "hello" working? We're big fans of positive reinforcement training: if you use any click and treat training in your house, then you could have Samantha click the minute Booker notices her (but before he growls). Then, he gets another treat. I bet he'll forget to rumble in no time.

I used to do stuff like that ... but now I just couldn't be bothered. Well, unless someone scares me of course, then it's a completely different story!

Cheers

Oh Booker, I'll do most anything for treats...Try the roll over. It's worth it just for the reward :-)
