On the topic of ears

Our friend Barley blogged about his ears. Actually about how his H-Mom calls his ears "potato chip ears." That made us laugh. Sometimes Booker's ears look like potato chips, too.

They don't ever stand up -- he's got floppy hound ears -- but they twitch up and down and back and forth and they are remarkably
communicative. The wrinkles in his forehead and his soulful hound dog eyes help with Booker's tendency toward overemotional expressiveness.

But WAIT! Check out Copper's ears! If you are looking for a dog with absolutely remarkable ears, Copper is your guy! He is up for adoption through the American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue. He is a liver Bloodhound. He rocks. He has some tracking experience, too. Those long ears help "sweep" scents up from the ground so that they go in his nose, where they are essential for doing things like tracking. Or "mantrailing." They are very useful
ears, if you are a Bloodhound.

H-Mom is in love with Copper. She can't stop looking at his ears.

Of course, Booker has great ears too. Booker's ears even turn inside-out and then go back to right-side-in all on their own. Not Bloodhound ears, but EXCELLENT ears, right?

Soft, velvety ears--we would like to nibble on them! Sometimes Mousse's ears will flip around up and over from back to front and he looks like Princess Leia. Haha, we call them 'stupid ears'. I don't know about potato chip ears but our friends at Snoutbeagle said Petey had the 'seal look' when his ears were down (he was in trouble).

You have great ears Booker. Dad says I have radar ears sometimes. But they must love our ears Booker, they keep scratching them!

Wow Copper is sure a handsome dog and has great ears! And you have excellent ears too Booker!

My mum wonders how Copper looks when he shakes himself with those long ears, cos mum says I make a loud flapping noise with my ears whenever I shake myself. Must be very cute!

Wow. We have to hand it to you hounds: when it comes to fantastic ears, you have the rest of the dog world beat. I think Copper's are the biggest we've ever seen!

Ears are an amazing thing. I have happy ears, which my human calls Dumbo ears. When I get super happy my ears go back, then upside down...they look like pink dumbo ears!

Hehehehe! I think Booker, you have awesome ears!

Slurp!

"sweep" scents up from the ground so that they go in his nose...it would have never occurred to me, but makes so much sense.

From now on I won't tease Mr B about his floppy ears. I'll still get a laugh out of it though when he shakes his head vigorously and his ears go a-flappa-flappa-flappa!

Booker, you do have awesome ears. Thanks for the lesson about bloodhounds' ears. I didn't realize their length had a purpose, but it makes sense to me now.
